It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death of one of our students, Fitzhugh Gordon Samuel, who died sometime Tuesday evening or early this morning in his residence at Lancer Park. Fitz was a senior theatre major from Falls Church, Va.
At this time, the cause of death is unclear, but there is no evidence of foul play. The Longwood University Police Department is handling the investigation.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Fitz’s family and friends. I know we all mourn with them the loss of such a promising young man and vital member of the Longwood community.

Longwood Police are investigating an incident at Lancer Park that occurred sometime before 8:25 a.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 3, at LancerPark. There is no threat to faculty, staff or students. More details will be provided as they become available.
At approximately 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, the Farmville Police Department along with the Longwood Police Department responded to the 500 block of High Street following a 911 call. Upon arrival it was determined that Longwood student Jacob E. Richardson, 22, while showing a personally owned firearm to a friend, Kathleen N. Battle, 21, also a Longwood student, accidentally discharged the firearm causing a bullet wound to her leg. She was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. Farmville police are handling the investigation. There is no ongoing threat.
Two Longwood students were involved in what appears to be an accidental shooting off campus Sunday night. The student who was injured was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There is no danger to any other students.
