Tornado Drill Notice

Longwood’s public address/siren warning and text messaging system will be activated today at 9:45 a.m. as part of a statewide tornado drill.

Delayed Opening Announcement

Due to hazardous weather conditions, Longwood University will open at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 7. Essential personnel should report as directed by their supervisors.

Closing Announcement

Due to predicted hazardous weather conditions, Longwood University will be closed on Wednesday, March 6. All essential personnel should report as directed by their supervisors. The university will reopen Thursday, March 7, for all regularly scheduled activities.

Notice Regarding Weather Forecast

After carefully assessing the weather forecast for Friday, Feb. 22, the university has determined that, at this time, conditions do not warrant closing. Employees and students should be aware of conditions in their areas and exercise appropriate caution. The online housing registration process scheduled for Friday will be conducted as planned, even if conditions worsen and the decision is made to close the university.

Weather Advisory for Wednesday, Jan. 30

High winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms are predicted for the Farmville area from about 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. Once these severe weather conditions begin, faculty, staff and students should remain safely indoors until the storm clears the area. Please keep in mind that power outages on campus are possible, and monitor weather reports for further updates on conditions.

Due to roadway conditions more hazardous than predicted, Longwood University will close at 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25. Friday afternoon and evening classes are cancelled. However, at this time, other activities on Friday evening and for the remainder of the weekend will take place as scheduled.

After carefully assessing the weather forecast for the afternoon and evening of Friday, Jan. 25, the university has determined that, at this time, conditions do not warrant closing and all activities Friday evening and over the weekend will take place as scheduled. Employees and students who must travel outside the Farmville area should check the weather forecast along their routes and exercise appropriate caution to ensure their safety.

Delayed Opening for Friday, January 18, 2013

Based on the forecast for potentially hazardous weather conditions late Thursday night, Longwood University will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. All Thursday evening activities will take place as scheduled. Anyone heading north or west from Farmville on Thursday evening should anticipate encountering more hazardous roadway conditions and exercise caution. All essential personnel should report to work Thursday evening and Friday morning as directed by their supervisors.
