Phone Service Issue Affecting Calls to Campus

Please be advised that we are currently experiencing a phone service outage affecting both incoming and outgoing calls. The issue originates with Brightspeed, our phone service provider, and is not specific to Longwood University. At this time, there is no estimated time for resolution.

Notice: The Statewide Tornado Drill has begun. In an actual tornado event, to to the tornado shelter in the nearest building and await an all clear message.

Notice: Update on ICA escapees

The university has been informed that three of the escaped detainees from Farmville’s ICA facility are now in custody. The fourth remains at large, but police believe they are no longer in the Farmville area and campus safety remains unthreatened.

Notice: Escaped ICA detainees

This evening area law enforcement was made aware that four detainees at the ICA detention center in Farmville had escaped this afternoon. A multi-agency response team is considering the detainees low-risk, and has indicated they were detained for nonviolent offenses. They are all wearing bright yellow clothing. At this time there is no indication that campus safety is at risk, but out of an abundance of caution LUPD will increase patrols of campus. If you see anyone matching the description of the detainees, please call 911.

Campus closed 2/20/25

Longwood University campus will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, due to inclement weather. The 7 p.m. theatre performance of “Little Women” in Jarman Auditorium will go on as scheduled. The 2 p.m. matinee is cancelled.

While campus is closed, classes will not be held in person. Faculty should communicate with students about their adjustments to the class schedule, which may include meeting online or alternative assignments. Students should check their email and Canvas for communications.

Longwood University campus will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, due to the expected winter storm. The men’s basketball home game vs. Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. will go on as scheduled.

Longwood University will open at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, due to expected icy conditions.
