Longwood University Police Chief Robert Beach has confirmed that a man was shot and killed Saturday evening in a fenced-off construction area at Lancer Park, a student residence complex located near the main campus. No Longwood students, faculty or staff were involved in the shooting, and there is no continuing danger, Beach said.

A second individual was taken into custody shortly after the shooting and is considered to be the only person of interest in the case, said Beach, adding that the call about the shooting came into the Longwood Police Department at approximately 7:45 p.m. The shooting occurred in a trailer on the construction site at Lancer Park, which is home to about 250 Longwood students. The Longwood Police Department and the Virginia State Police are conducting the investigation.
