We are anticipating more winter weather over the weekend. The National Weather Service is forecasting possible snow in our area, and we are continuing to monitor the forecast and will share any updates as needed. The home men’s basketball game vs. High Point remains scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, 1/31) at 3 p.m. in JPB. To prepare for more winter weather and continued cold temperatures, we wanted to share some important information: With additional snow, new accumulations will fall onto existing ice from the last storm—please use caution if you are going out. Once any precipitation stops falling, grounds crews will begin clearing pathways to campus buildings. Our grounds crews and facilities team have worked very hard throughout the past week to make campus accessible. Be aware that a path and at least one entrance to each building has been cleared, with ADA accessible entrances prioritized. However, you may need to allow for extra time to get to your destination and deviate from your regular route. There is an extreme cold watch in effect over the weekend through early Sunday, with sub-zero wind chills possible. Please dress properly for these extended cold temperatures we are experiencing, including wearing hats and gloves, multiple layers, and boots/shoes that help provide traction (such as rubber soles). Crews continue ice-breaking efforts in campus-maintained parking lots, but ongoing below-freezing temperatures and an extended cold forecast mean compacted ice will remain on parking surfaces for some time. Students are responsible for shoveling out and clearing their own vehicles before attempting to move them. Please stay safe and warm!

Campus community,

We are reaching out because we are anticipating more winter weather over the weekend. The National Weather Service is forecasting possible snow in our area, and we are continuing to monitor the forecast and will share any updates as needed.

The home men’s basketball game vs. High Point remains scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, 1/31) at 3 p.m. in JPB.

To prepare for more winter weather and continued cold temperatures, we wanted to share some important information:

  • With additional snow, new accumulations will fall onto existing ice from the last storm. Please use caution if you are going out. Once any precipitation stops falling, grounds crews will begin clearing pathways to campus buildings.
  • Our grounds crews and facilities team have worked very hard throughout the past week to make campus accessible. A path and at least one entrance to each building has been cleared, with ADA-accessible entrances prioritized. You may need to allow extra time to get to your destination and deviate from your regular route.
  • An extreme cold watch is in effect over the weekend through early Sunday, with sub-zero wind chills possible. Please dress properly for these extended cold temperatures, including wearing hats and gloves, multiple layers, and boots or shoes that provide traction, such as rubber soles.
  • Crews continue ice-breaking efforts in campus-maintained parking lots, but ongoing below-freezing temperatures and an extended cold forecast mean compacted ice will remain on parking surfaces for some time. Students are responsible for shoveling out and clearing their own vehicles before attempting to move them.

Please stay safe and warm!

We have been closely monitoring the weather forecast and preparing for the possibility of power outages resulting from Winter Storm Fern. In the event of a loss of power, Dorrill Dining Hall has generators and will be able to provide food. Dining services will deliver food to the POD at Lancer Park. Please be aware that if campus-managed residences lose power, toilets will continue to work. We will also open a warming station in Willett Hall, which has a generator system, phone charging availability, and working bathrooms in the event of power loss. If there is a power outage, we will work closely with the power company on an estimated time for power restoration and stay in communication with the campus community.
