A decision about opening or closing on Friday, Feb. 14, will be made by early afternoon Thursday, Feb. 13.

To allow streets to be cleared, anyone who has a car parked on the street should move his/her vehicle to any Longwood parking lot (other than Bristow) no later than 5 p.m. today. This includes students, faculty and staff.

Due to predicted hazardous weather conditions this afternoon (Tuesday, Jan. 21) and tomorrow morning, Longwood University will close at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) and reopen at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Jan. 22).

Exceptions are the following essential services. Dorrill Dining Hall and all other food service locations will maintain normal hours. The Fitness Center and Greenwood Library will close at 10 p.m. Tuesday and reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The Student Union will close at 10 p.m. Tuesday and reopen at 9 a.m. Wednesday. All other planned activities in the Student Union and elsewhere on campus are cancelled for Tuesday evening.

The add/drop deadline of 5 p.m. Jan. 21 remains unchanged. (more info)

After a careful review of current weather conditions and the forecast for tonight and tomorrow morning, Longwood University administration has decided that all regularly scheduled activities for today, Sunday, Dec. 8, and tomorrow, Monday, Dec. 9, will proceed as usual with the following exceptions:

  • The 3 p.m. Sunday performance of “Love Letters” has been CANCELLED.
  • Late-night Breakfast set for tonight, Sunday, has been CANCELLED.

Anyone traveling to campus today or tomorrow should monitor weather conditions in their areas and exercise the appropriate caution. The university urges everyone to be safe.

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death of one of our students, Fitzhugh Gordon Samuel, who died sometime Tuesday evening or early this morning in his residence at Lancer Park. Fitz was a senior theatre major from Falls Church, Va.

At this time, the cause of death is unclear, but there is no evidence of foul play. The Longwood University Police Department is handling the investigation.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Fitz’s family and friends. I know we all mourn with them the loss of such a promising young man and vital member of the Longwood community.
